The GSG helps to organize and sponsors a number of events for graduate students and other members of the Princeton Community. Please see the information below on some of our current events, including:
GSG Pub Night
Pub Nights are usually held at the Dbar on the second Wednesday of every month, from 8-10 pm after our monthly Assembly meetings. Drink specials and appetizers are available.
The Graduate Student Government Events Board also sponsors social mixers between just two departments. Find out more here.
Graduate Writing Days
Graduate Writing Days provides a quiet space for grad students to work on their writing, whether that be a dissertation, a book chapter, a grant proposal, or an article. Writing Days offers a generous spread of breakfast food, plenty of caffeine (coffee and tea), and a quiet place to sit and work alongside fellow grad students.
Graduate Writing Days meets Mondays 9AM-12PM in Campus Club. Please subscribe to the firstname.lastname@example.org listserv to sign up, as space is limited. Feel free to contact GSG academic affairs chair Daniel Vitek (email@example.com) if you have any questions.
A quick history of Graduate Writing Days
Brooke Macnamara, a Ph.D. student in Psychology, started GWD in 2011. She initially got funding from the Graduate School for ten 3-hour sessions per semester for 25 participants per session. Due to the popularity of the program, the program was expanded to 40 participants per session.
GSG Furniture Drive
Furniture Drive takes place after Commencement.
The GSG Furniture Drive provides an opportunity for members of the Princeton University community to help local charities by donating gently-used furniture, clothing, and other household items from graduating undergraduates. In addition, the GSG Furniture Drive helps to recycle used furniture and other goods within the graduate student community at Princeton. This annual event is organized by the GSG but relies on volunteers. Volunteers get first choice on donated items! This year the Furniture Drive took place from 3:00 pm – 7:30 pm on Tuesday, May 31st and from 10:00 am – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 1st. During these times, volunteers were needed for at a minimum a one-hour shift occupying tents and helping visitors drop off or pick up items. After the drive was completed, charities picked up the remaining items.
NOTE: Unfortunately, the GSG cannot assist in the transportation of purchased items at the Drive.
